Lobby or reception in Henn na Hotel Kagoshima Tenmonkan
I've seen videos of this hotel chain in the past, but completely forgot about it so it was a big surprise when I got to the reception and was met by a 65 million year receptionist 😂 I booked a regular room, but apparently there are some rooms with funny decorations too and some dedicated to children, which sounds great if you're traveling as a family. The check-in process is fairly simple, you are greeted by your holographic host once you touch the screen. For foreigners, the system will tell you to insert your family name and given name in this order, but won't recognise it, it needs to be given name and then family name. Don't worry if you come to a stump or need some help, the system will automatically call someone or you can call them on the screen. Good facilities, massive common bath (very clean), two coin washer dryers, vending machines, spacious smoking room, microwave in the lobby and manga books as well. The standard room was simple, but enough for me as a solo traveler. Chargers by the bed side, good amenities in the room and extras in the lobby, just very normal. Location was great, very central, near bars and restaurants, walking distance to public transport and the ferry to Sakurajima.

A lot of the amenities are automated. You can perform pre-check in procedures online so it will be quick when you get to the hotel. The check in area is cool; animated characters will show up to greet you and will adjust their language depending on your selected language on the check in panel. The room we got is spacious and has an LG Styler to clean your clothes, which greatly reduced our laundry needs. The hotel is located in Tenmonkan, which is a district in Kagoshima that has a lot of stores and restaurants, perfect for travel. The hotel breakfast is a traditional Japanese Teishoku (set meal) which is very delicious. The selection is limited to 4 and very light. Lastly, when checking out, they have a self storage area where you can place your small bags in cabinets and tie your suitcases with card-activated locking mechanism. Very convenient.

The reception was fun and pretty unique. But besides that's its a regular but really solid hotels. The room was spacious, comfy beds and a TV of a really nice size. The location is pretty good as well. Even though it is in Tenmonkan, it is just outside the busy area. It is just a 1min walk to that part, and also really easy to reach from Kagoshima-chuo station. It's basically just a 15min walk, straight ahead. Although a taxi is a better option when you are with suitcases. About 1000 yen from Kagoshima Station.

It is a new hotel. Hotel is very generous with good quality toiletries which you can help yourself to, at the lobby. Self check-in via automated machine is efficient. Good location; near the night spots in Kagoshima and located just opposite Don Don Donki, a popular cheap chain superstore where you can get anything you need. Automated multi-story Parking is just on the right side of the hotel; note that car park entrance is just next to hotel where u have to drive into the pedestrian walkway.

As soon as there was an issue, the staff came and helped. It was great to have adjoining interconnected rooms. There was adequate hanging space, a small refrigerator and a steamer to make your clothes less creased. There were washer/ dryer combination machines on the second floor, which required no detergent as it was added automatically. A large load cost 800 yen to was and dry. Coming out you will still need to air the clothes as they come out damp!
